You will be meeting Presidents-Elect from “The Southern Seven” districts of southern California and Nevada. Each meal (except Thursday dinner and Friday breakfast) is like a big 500 member Rotary meeting with songs, jokes, surprises, and a great speaker at each meal. They have lined up Past RI Presidents Karl Wilhelm Stenhammar and his Aide Paco Creo, Cliff Dochterman, Rick King, and other entertaining and inspiring speakers.
Be there before
9:00 a.m. Friday morning March 2nd for the brand new grand opening
ceremony “Morning Has Broken,” starring immediate Past RI President
Carl-Wilhelm Stenhammar,
When we get closer to
PETS I will send you more information about the schedule of classes, customary
attire during the meetings and meals, etc. The 2007-08 Rotary
International President’s Theme is…
We don’t know! And
they won’t tell us until the end of January. From January 28 to February 3, I
will be attending the International Assembly in San Diego where 2007-08 RI
President Wilf Wilkinson will announce his International Theme and his
International Objectives and Goals to the DGs of the world.
We will relay that information to you.
Rotary merchandise
vendors will then roll out the new theme pins, badges, banners, binders, shirts,
and you name it. Several of the
major RI licensed vendors will be set up at PETS to supply your club officer
pins, etc. Outbound Group Study
Exchange Participants for 2007-08
Because our D5240
outbound GSE team will be going to India D3110 (Uttar Pradesh) for the month of
January 2008, it is not too soon for you to think of young business and
professional people in your area, non-Rotarians, that your club might nominate
for the team. They might come back
motivated to join your club! 2007-08
GSE Chair Colin Stephens of Santa Barbara Sunrise will be in touch with you
about the team nominations Calendar Updates A
revised 2007-08 Calendar with the yellow highlights for Incoming Presidents will
be updated online this web site soon. A couple of additions and highlights:
Please check the District Calendar and www.rotarydistrict5240.org
when you are scheduling your 2007-08 club events.
Communicate with each other so nearby clubs are not competing for event
ticket buyers and sponsors. District
Conference Bakersfield! October 5-7, 2007
Again, please avoid scheduling anything in conflict with the 2007 District
Conference in Bakersfield October 5-7, 2007.
We want you, your past and incoming presidents, PRLS graduates,
new members, project participants, and committee leaders to participate.
Our 2007 District Conference Team, chaired by Dan Giordano of
Bakersfield-East, has outlined a conference strong on fellowship, meaningful
content, inspiring speakers, interactive sessions, and abundant hospitality at
reasonable rates. See the last page
of this Newsletter for an early draft of the Conference flyer.
The District Budget to be approved at PETS provides a substantial budget for the
District Conference. This is to
make sure the Conference is excellent and affordable. Point out to your members that there is no conference
registration fee (but you do have to register), just the cost of the meal plan
and the hotel for those staying overnight, which is strongly recommended so you
can relax and enjoy the evening receptions and dinners. Thank
you for your enthusiasm and hard work! Building on Rotary
Success, Jane McClenahan District Governor 2007-08
P.S. Our Happy New Year started
by working on the Rotary Rose Parade Float.
Our District 5240, many of our clubs and members contributed money and
volunteer time to decorate the float. Three
of the eight Rotary Youth Exchange students on the float were from D5240,
including Maria Sole Kramm (SB Sunrise) and Gurleen Sahni (SLO) pictured below.
Daniel Leon Arcos (SLO de Tolosa) was on the “TV side” of the float.
